What is Artsplainer?
Artsplainer is an app that gives you instant, written feedback on any artwork or photograph. Point your phone's camera at a piece (or load an image on desktop) and it analyses the technique, composition, style, colour, lighting and mood, with specific suggestions for improvement.
Which devices does Artsplainer work on?
iPhone and Android, plus Windows and macOS desktop apps. There are also plugins for Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop, so photographers can analyse an image without leaving their editor. The desktop app pairs with your phone by QR code and shares the same credit balance.
How much does Artsplainer cost?
It is free to download and comes with 50 free credits, with no sign-up required. After that it is pay-as-you-go: credit packs start at GBP 5 for 30 credits on Android (GBP 5.99 on iPhone), with larger packs available. There is no subscription and credits never expire.
What can it tell me about a picture?
Depending on the tier you choose, it covers technique, composition, colour, lighting, mood, style, comparable artists, historical context and concrete suggestions to improve. Tiers range from a quick review of around 60 words up to a detailed analysis of around 500 words.
Can Artsplainer judge photography competitions?
Yes. The Competition Judge tier gives a scored critique as a percentage and calibrates to your camera club's ability level over time. Photography clubs also get a dedicated admin portal with usage stats and competition management.
Is Artsplainer private with my photos?
Yes. Images are deleted immediately after analysis and are never stored on the servers. No name, email or tracking data is collected, and your account is created automatically from an anonymous device ID.
